If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a person of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the gifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent. I call leadership the great challenge of life.

What's important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective. Here are some specifics:

1) Learn to be strong but not rude.
It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rudeness for strength. It's not even a good substitute.

2) Learn to be kind but not weak.
We must not mistake kindness for weakness. Kindness isn't weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be kind enough to tell somebody the truth. We must be kind enough and considerate enough to lay it on the line. We must be kind enough to tell it like it is and not deal in delusion.

3) Learn to be bold but not a bully.
It takes boldness to win the day. To build your influence, you've got to walk in front of your group. You've got to be willing to take the first arrow, tackle the first problem, discover the first sign of trouble.

4) You've got to learn to be humble, but not timid.
You can't get to the high life by being timid. Some people mistake timidity for humility. Humility is almost a God-like word. A sense of awe. A sense of wonder. An awareness of the human soul and spirit. An understanding that there is something unique about the human drama versus the rest of life. Humility is a grasp of the distance between us and the stars, yet having the feeling that we're part of the stars. So humility is a virtue; but timidity is a disease. Timidity is an affliction. It can be cured, but it is a problem.

5) Be proud but not arrogant.
It takes pride to win the day. It takes pride to build your ambition. It takes pride in community. It takes pride in cause, in accomplishment. But the key to becoming a good leader is being proud without being arrogant. In fact I believe the worst kind of arrogance is arrogance from ignorance. It's when you don't know that you don't know. Now that kind of arrogance is intolerable. If someone is smart and arrogant, we can tolerate that. But if someone is ignorant and arrogant, that's just too much to take.

6) Develop humor without folly.
That's important for a leader. In leadership, we learn that it's okay to be witty, but not silly. It's okay to be fun, but not foolish.

Lastly, deal in realities. Deal in truth.
Save yourself the agony. Just accept life like it is. Life is unique. Some people call it tragic, but I'd like to think it's unique. The whole drama of life is unique. It's fascinating. And I've found that the skills that work well for one leader may not work at all for another. But the fundamental skills of leadership can be adapted to work well for just about everyone: at work, in the community, and at home.

5 Attitudes for Success in 2010 in Your MLM, Network Marketing and Direct Sales Business

1. Be Coachable/Teachable:

MLM, Network Marketing and Direct Sales business are all about people helping people. You need to make every effort to stay in touch with your upline/sponsor. ASK if you need help, remember your upline/sponsor does not read minds, they don’t know that you need help.

To acquire the most from others experience, knowledge and success, you need to be willing to learn, to be open to new ideas and be willing to be a part of the team. Be a team player.

Remember do not judge yourself to others success because people take different lengths of time to achieve their goals.

2. Be Duplicatable:

Randy Gage says, "Success without duplication is merely future failure in disguise."

It’s important to keep your business SIMPLE. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people who would love to share and use your products and/or to earn a living from the great opportunity your MLM, Network Marketing or Direct Sales business offers.

If your presentation is or looks to difficult you will lose your prospect because they will feel they can’t possible do the same thing. They will not think they have that ability. Us the SYSTEM your company, upline/sponsor has put together. Do not reinvent the wheel so to speak. Offer simplicity – something anyone can do!

3. Step Outside of your Comfort Zone:

I love the book by Susan Jeffers, “Feel the Fear, and Do It Anyway.” What she is saying is to get outside of your comfort zone. Each time you do and accomplish something that scares you or your fear you have just expanded your comfort zone. Make the world your comfort zone. You can do it!

I understand all too well about doing something new, it might make you feel uncomfortable! Don’t worry, this is not a feeling of uneasiness, it’s your personal and professional levels expanding in the direction of growth. Enjoy this new personal and professional growth and keep expanding your comfortable zone.

You have to be willing to try something new! Scared? Don’t be. Feel the fear and do it anyway!

4. Be Yourself:

You are unique and fantastic! MLM, Network Marketing and Direct Sales are all business that are built on building relationships. The best manner to build relationships is to make sure that your own style and love for what you do shows through everything you say and do.

You are involved in MLM, Network Marketing or a Direct Sales business and you want to grow your business, you need to remember not to just push your business but build the relationship first and your business will grow. When you meet people either in person or on one of the social network sites they don’t know you, they don’t have a relationship with you at this time. This business is all about relationshipping!

Bring out the best in others, by helping others to succeed and your success is guaranteed.

Enjoy your journey and others will also.

5. Be the Example:

You an upline/sponsor need to be a great example for your team and prospects. What you say, what you do and how you act in response to challenges or change is capable of affecting your business in either a positive or negative manner.

When building your team in your MLM, Network Marketing or Direct Sales business your team and others will look to you first to see how you handle different situations.

Remember positive words, positive attitudes and positive actions will affect your pay check in a very positive manner!

My Network Marketing journey began in January, 1992. My first company was a basket company and it was nearly $500 to get involved at that time.

I "dabbled" in one home business after another after another and went back and forth between businesses. I lost track of how many I tried.

I want a business that I could run from home, to be with my son, take care of my husband and our home. What I kept finding was that these "home businesses" kept me away from home more than if I was still working in "Corporate America."

I did find a business that I liked and ran with and my business took off. I loved talking with people about the product and the earning opportunity. I brought over 200 people into this business. I loved what I was doing, but once again I was gone a lot and my husband was not happy. So once again I quit the business.

Then I found this great home fragrance company and I thought this should be a piece of cake. I can do this from home and from my computer. I didn't have to go outside the home to sell my product or build a team. But once again I was told it was taking too much of my time. I was also told over and over again and again that only certain people can make the "big bucks" in this type of work, that it takes a certain type of person and that it wasn't me. So once again I quit.

Now, I'm sure you can see a theme here. Start a business then quit.

At the end of 2006 my life as I knew it changed drastically my marriage of 25 years ended. I was filled with so many emotions at that time. I was sad, devastated, scared, I couldn’t believe it was happening to me, I was confused, relieved, I accepted it, I was numb but eerily ok. What really surprised me the most was that I was content with my marriage ending and I really didn’t know why?

It took me over a year to come to grips with why I was content…I felt the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. You see I had lived with years of abuse and with an alcoholic husband. It was emotional, mental, verbal and psychological abuse. I was not even able to have friends.

My now ex-husband made sure that I knew that I was nothing, I had no talent, I couldn’t do anything right. He always criticized everything I ever did, nothing ever suited him, and even if I did what he asked he would still criticize.

I was worthless…I was nothing without him. He kept reminding me that I would be nothing without him…that I would not be able to survive. He had me believing that I would be living on the streets without him.

You see as far as he was concerned I was nothing but a piece of trash…I was worthless or even less than worthless if that is possible.

So, for years I just gave up on myself, believing he was right. Wow, was I ever wrong.

My divorce attorney during our negotiation, while we were trying to work out the divorce details with my now ex-husband in the room made the comment that the reason we were asking for a bit of alimony was to help train me because I had no skills and I would never make as much money in my life as he did. Can you believe that!

For almost 20 years I was a wife, a mother and I homeschooled our son and I had not worked outside our home during that time. I now found myself needing to get a full time job somewhere, which I did. But I knew that my job would not give me the security that I needed because at this time I lost all security. I had no retirement, all of my financial security as gone.

My job that I have now barely gives me enough to make ends meet and I wanted something better for myself and I knew the only way to have and get the time freedom and the financial security that I deserved would be with Network Marketing…starting a home based business.

I decided that now is the time to take back control of my life! I have not felt so alive, so good or so happy in years!

I have to admit it was a long road and a very tough time in reprogramming my mindset from all the negativity and abuse that I have lived with for years to the positive mindset that I have today.

I am now committed to my success and personal growth, I am educating myself. I listen to CD's, conference calls and read a lot of books, and attend seminars when I can. My commitment is paying off. I'm grateful every day. I'm still reading, listening and learning.

I decided that before I jumped back into any home business (been there done that and got the T-shirt) I decided that I was going to take my time and look at some of the businesses that I "dabbled" in over the years.

I wanted something in a business that was fast growing, not a passing fad, not a get rich quick scheme, something that would provide me with an ongoing residual income for years and years.

I also wanted more than one way to make money. I wanted choices; I wanted multiple streams of income.

I also didn't want to have to spend hundreds of dollars every two weeks or monthly just to make money on my team members.

I wanted something I could do on the internet, because let's face it the internet is here to stay and it's the best way to build a business; the fastest way to get your name out there.

I wanted something that appealed to me, a product I would use, a product that I like (ok loved), and a product I would be excited about to share with everyone. It also needed to be able to appeal to the masses.

I wanted teamwork, to associate with like-minded people and I wanted to decide what I was worth in terms of a paycheck.

It's never been easier or more affordable to start a business of your own. The internet has opened more doors than we imagined possible. Not to make it sound too easy, because it isn't, contrary to what some people want you to think.

What if you are walking by that company?

Keep your mind open and remember that success almost never unfolds the exact way you expect it to.

Don't worry about planning everything out in advance; just be open to the possibilities.

Was I Ever Amazed At The Compensation Plan

I didn't think that a skin care company would be the company for me, but I was at least open to evaluating it.

When I was first introduced to the concept of a Skin Care Business , I have to admit that I was skeptical. I was not looking for a skin care business at all even though I loved and use skin care products. I am an MLM recruiter, trainer and coach and to be honest home parties and a strong retail background was really not my cup of tea.

My passion is teaching others and empowering others on how to be successful in MLM.

Also, I was afraid that my target market would be limited to only women.

Well I was wrong? So I started with this great home skin care company.

You've come a long way and have learned a lot. I’d like to tell you a little about me, my story and my commitment to you should you decide to partner with me and the company.

My Network Marketing journey began in January, 1992. I wanted a business that I could run from home, to be with my son, take care of my husband and our home. What I kept finding was that these "home businesses" kept me away from home more than if I was still working in "Corporate America."

At the end of 2006 my life as I knew it changed drastically my marriage of 25 years ended.

MLM and Network Marketing were on my mind a lot during this process, everything kept pointing me there. I wanted a few things with this business venture -

Our Business and Why It Works

You've learned how trends and timing really can make a difference in your choice of business; and you've also learned that these are key components when you evaluate a business.

I was with a few companies before I found the right fit for me. I had days of discouragement, but I did not give up. Today, I am on my way to become a six figure income earner and I have a passion about coaching others (maybe you) to success in a home business, too.

When I chose my current company, I used those 4 key principles and here is how my business fits into that -

Huge, expanding market - we have a product already used homes everywhere. Chances are, you have this product in your home already and surely many of your friends and family does as well. It is already a $2+ billion industry and growing.
Unique, consumable product - this is a product that is used and re-purchased or re-ordered regularly. It is highly consumable and unique because it is a new, improved version of a product that has been in existence for centuries. It has a low unit cost and is purchased in good economic times as well as in bad.
Timing, and trends in timing - this product is a "green" product. It is a "feel good" product and the country is making a huge shift toward this type of product. It is a product purchased at all economic levels and by both women and men.
Time leverage, through employees or business associates - our business model uses network marketing, so you are paid on your efforts and have the ability to build and coach a team, where everyone benefits by working together. What if you put in 10 hours each week and had 100 others on your team doing the same? That would be 1000 hours worked each week on your behalf. Would that interest you?

Think about some of the other products that are out there. Are these on the beginning of a trend or at the tail end?

Here are some things people are tired of in MLM, Network Marketing and Internet Marketing – Maybe some things you are sick of as well.

Juice and Vitamin Programs - they are everywhere
$150-400 monthly auto-ship requirements for products to be involved in the business.
Way too much inventory coming in with no real ability to retail it.
Travel Programs that cost in the $1000s - not great in this economy.
"Downline Builder Systems" promising the moon and delivering nothing but debt.
Too much hype created by fear of loss.

Phone Tips for Network Marketing/Direct Sales Prospects

Phone calls to your prospects are essential to working your business. Sure you could take the chicken way out and just send your prospects an email about your network marketing business. Been there done that, tried that and trust me it doesn’t work. What you do is hope they open your email and just fall in love with your products and your network marketing opportunity and they will rush to the phone to call you. HA! They will not.

Phone calls are where you not only start to build your network marketing business it is also where you start to build a relationship with your prospect. It’s important to build a relationship with your prospect, get to know them and let them know you. You have to take “you” out of it and put your prospect front and center.

I know what you’re thinking, the fear of picking up that phone and making that call. This is a fear that most people have; it is the fear of rejections. You are not alone in this feeling so many others have felt the same exact fear you have right now about picking up the phone and calling.

What you have to remember is that it’s not about you. The prospect is NOT rejecting you, they are just saying no to the products or the opportunity because it’s not the right time for them. They are not ready now to make a commitment, but they just may be ready a few weeks, months or even a year from your first contact.

Building a network marketing business involves building a team, training that team and teaching your team to do the same thing as you are doing. That’s called duplication. Set a goal of making 25 calls per day, or possibly doing a power hour each evening where you make calls to prospects for an entire hour doing this for five days each week. Where will your business be in 90 days? It’s important to be consistent and you will see great results.

Create positive energy and sound confident when making your calls. Remember voice does matter when talking to your prospects. Body language plays an important role when calling and talking with your prospects. Your voice in this case is your body language.

There are some proven methods that can help you portray a positive energy and to sound confident as you are talking to your prospects.

*Stand up and walk around when talking ~this is the only way I talk on phones, I can’t sit still when talking.
*Be authentic, be real and listen to your prospect.
*Most importantly relax ~ if you are relaxed then your prospect will also be relaxed.
*Talk slow, don’t rush what you say
*Relax….relax….relax
*Don’t forget to breath

Did you know that you speak differently that you write? You do trust me; everyone speaks differently than they talk.

When you use scripts, read it through first, read it out loud in front of a mirror, make sure that you have a pen with you when doing this; as you are reading through the script tweak it so it sounds natural. You want the script to sound natural not like you are reading from a script. It should sound just like you speak, if the scripts have contractions in them (ie: don’t, can’t etc) and you don’t talk using contractions then by all means take them out and replace them.

Making your script sound natural is accomplished by practicing, practicing and then practicing some more. Tweaking your script until you feel comfortable, remember you talk differently than you write.

For the final step, but a very critical step for your network marketing business is the follow up. Remember "The Fortune is in the Follow Up," I’m sure you have heard that before and you will hear it over and over again from many different people and places because it’s true. The initial contact is just the start of the process – follow up with your prospect is important to see where they are in their process of making a decision.

I know that the fortune is in the follow up because I’ve lost a few prospects. Why because I did not follow up after my initial contact. I let other things get in my way of not making a follow up call. I have come across some of my prospects and signed up with someone else, someone who made the follow up call. They could have been my partner, on my team if I had only followed up with them when I said I would.

So when you set a follow up day and time with your prospect CALL THEM BACK!
How do you remember to follow up with a prospect? You need to put together a system that works for you. A few techniques that could aid in helping you to remember your “follow up appointment:”

*Use outlook or google calendar and set up a reminder so it will pop up 1 to 2 hours or whatever time you
just so you will be reminded before the appointment time you set.
*PDA – sync it with outlook or Google calendar and your PDA will remind you if you are out the your office
or on the road.
*Write it on your calendar or daytime on the day and time you set up.
*Set up a notebook with number dividers 1-31, after you make your notes on the prospects sheet move the
sheet to the correct numbered day. Then each day go to that number and call each prospect back.

These are just a few ideas to try in your business. Try all of them to see which works best for you.

With the gas prices sky rocking (at least now we do see the prices going down for a little while) along with the prices of everything else. People are looking for additional income just to make ends meet and pay their bills. Just take a look around and ask people, you will find the majority of the people will say they need to supplement their income. They just aren’t making it with today’s economy – they need to make more money.

2008 Goals

Here are my goals for 2008 and not in any particular order.

1. Build 2 new websites using SBI and working on getting them to the top!
2. Tweak all of my other websites, update them and work on increasing their ranks on the search engines.
3. Send out 15 to 20 fundraiser postcards a week.
4. Call the fundraiser opportunities that I sent postcards to the week before.
5. Participate in various types of advertising, online as well as off line.
6. Write more articles and put out to various places online.
7. Read books about MLM, learn, learn, learn and learn some more.
8. Participate in all company training.
9. Hand out a minimum of 25 business cards with scent samples.
10. Participate in a leads program.
11. Make regular calls to all leads, team members.
12. Get my team members plugged in to all training.
13. Create a Daily Plan of Action.
14. Get my office and business organized.
15. Break down my goals from yearly, to monthly, then to daily. Take each day step by step.
16. Follow Up, Follow Up, Follow Up and again Follow Up.
17. Be accessible to my team members and to help train them to succeed.
18. Put quality training for my team together along with corporate training and Jackie’s training.
19. Become a Double Diamond by December 31, 2008.

A goal is something specific, something you want or need to accomplish in a specific period of time. To establish a clear, central purpose or goal in life is the starting point of all success.

There was a study several years ago at a business school and the results of the graduates who had been out of school for at least ten years illustrates the power of goals. Upon graduation the graduates were surveyed and the following was found:

83% did not have goals
4% had vague goals
3% had clearly articulated written goals

When their levels of accomplishments were compared ten years later, those with some sense of their goal earned three times more than those with no goals. The 3% with clearly articulated written goals earned ten times more than those without goals.

You have goals; you may just not realize it now. I want to help you realize, develop and achieve your goals. Your goals are your promises to YOU! Goal setting is just like creating a blueprint. Lets get started creating your blueprint!

Everyone needs to learn how to set effective, realistic and SMART goals. Start the process by first creating a list of dreams. Make sure you list places you would like to visit, things you would like to experiences, items you would like to have, skills you would like to acquire and the amount of money you would like to make. Maybe you want to travel to Hawaii or Europe or you want a new house or car. You decide what you want and write it down on paper. You will need this list to develop SMART Goals.

There is no limit to the number of goals that you set. You need to make sure your list includes goals that you are committed to attaining. There are a few steps to take to set effective goals and we will cover those here:

S=Specific
Your goals must be clearly defined and written.

M=Measurable
The goal must be able to be measured over time. You must be able to clearly define what success on a goal will look like.

A=Actionable
There must be specific action steps you can take toward realization of the goal.

R=Realistic
Your goal must be one that is realistically based on your current level of skills, environment, and the time allotted.

T=Time Based
Your goal needs to have a deadline that you are committed to.

Look over each goal you have on your list and ask yourself, “is this a SMART goal? Why or why not? Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself about each goal you want to set:

*Do I need help with my goal?

*What may hinder the process of my goals?

*Do I need more education to achieve more?

This is another major step in goal setting because you may see and feel necessary changes in your plan.

After you have written your “SMART Goals” you need to prioritize your long-term and short-term goals. This is a very important step in the goal-setting process because it enables you to step back and examine which goals are most important to you. This does not mean that you should ignore the goals farther down on your list, but it does help you to identify where and how to focus your efforts now.

Your goals will change over time, you will achieve some goals, and others may lose their importance as circumstances in your life change. As this happens you need to re-examine and re-prioritize your goals.

Once you have defined your SMART Goals you will need to define an action plan.

An Action Plan is an essential element of setting goals. The details that you specify in your Action Plan enable you to see what you need to do and avoid, in achieving your goals. As you develop your Action Plan, be sure to keep the following in mind:

Write SMART Goals

*Develop your goals with a positive attitude

*Expand your knowledge

*Shape your Action Plan and commit to it

*Invest in developing effective skills and habits

*Gain results by building relationships

Here is a great way to write your goals. Be sure to use an outline for each goal you want to set. These steps will help you to define your wants.

Step 1. List one of the goals you would like to achieve be specific.
Step 2. List 3 to 5 reasons to achieve this goal. In other words, why is it
important that YOU achieve this goal.
Step 3. List the steps you need to take to achieve this goal. Break the
process down into reasonable steps toward achieving your goal.

Let me show you a sample goal so you can see what is involved in each of the above steps.

Step 1. The Goal: You want a new red convertible 2005 Corvette with black leather seats, automatic, with a 5 disc CD player.

*You would like to have this new car by December 31, 2005.

*The cost will be approximately $55,000.

(You can go into more or less detail about the car and all the extras you would like to have, it’s up to you.)

Step 2. What’s in it for me (YOU)

1. I will get the satisfactions of driving the car of my dreams.
2. I will feel important.
3. I will be the first in my family to ever own such a car.
4. I will have achieved one of my goals.

Step 3. Steps to achieve your goal. You will need to increase yearly sales by $55,000 and introduce 204 people to the business opportunity.

1. I need to increase monthly sales approximately $4,500 and
increase my new business partners by 17.
2. I need to increase weekly sales approximately $1,125 and
bring in 4/5 new business partners.
3. I need to increase daily sales approximately $150 and
bring in no less than 1 new business partner per day.

You may want to go into greater detail than I did with this example. I just wanted to share with you how this works. Your goals may not include a car, it could be going back to school to get a degree, buying a new home or re-decorating your current home. Whatever your goals, these steps will help you to define them.

It is also important to share your newly defined goals with your family, friends and business associates.

A few reasons why people fail at achieving their goals are:

1. People take action without any real plan.
2. People give themselves an unrealistic time frame for achieving a goal
3. Their reason for the goal is unclear, they have not properly defined the goal
4. Lack of focus. Success demands focus.
5. Trying to do it alone, nobody goes through life alone and you should
not try to achieve your goals alone. Ask for help.
6. FEAR OF FAILURE!!!! This is the biggie out of all the above. Fear
resides where knowledge does not exist; the more knowledge you have
about anything the less intimidated you will feel. Replace your fear
with knowledge.

You now have some of the tools to achieve your goals. MAKE THIS YOUR BEST YEAR EVER!
